Speaking with Purpose

See video

The first step to creating a great speech is to give it purpose.   A good presenter always knows where the speech is going, and what it should achieve.  Every part of the speech and delivery should compliment the purpose.  I suggest you consider your purpose in three parts:

  • What is your message?
  • What is your delivery?
  • What are your goals?

Speech Info:

This speech is intended as a Toastmasters speech, but also intended to inspire the Toastmasters organization to grow.  The speech objectives are:

Researched Topic - Medical Tourism Primer

Sometimes you need to use hard facts to get your point across.  Some ideas are really different from the norm.  To overcome natural skepticism, you need to research your topic and present those facts to support your points.

One of my other projects is supporting a company that connects medical tourists to medical providers.  To tell you the truth, I didn't know anything about medical tourism before I got involved.

One Great Kid Setting an Example for Us All

Kids Really Inspire Me

When I saw Kayden (seen in the video below) was looking to create videos such as this one to raise some extra money, I couldn't pass up helping him out.

I saw an example video, and it was clear that someone had been coaching him.  For eleven years old, he has a great speaking style.  Good use of body language, and vocal variety.

His dad (listed as SpencerReynolds on fiverr.com ) helped him put together the video.

Defending your family: One more benefit of public speaking skills

Speaking in Defense of Children

My wife and I are foster parents.   A social worker recently approached us about speaking at a sentencing hearing.  The child had been with us for many months.  We knew what impact the crimes had on her.  We knew how they would affect her life.

Believe me.  She will deal with the after effects for the rest of her life.

The Fishing Trip - (A Tall Tail Speech)

Tall Tales

Sometimes we just want to tell an entertaining story.  It can be a great way to endear yourself to a group of people.  I tell stories like this to my kids at bedtime, or around a campfire.  They can be a lot of fun.

They can also be a great way to practice your speaking skills.  The great thing is that you don't have to be so serious.  You can let loose, and have some fun with it.
