Beware Internet Scams!

Have you read about those scams where someone tries to get you wire money or use your Paypal account to steal thousands of dollars? Maybe you know someone who has been hit by one of these scams, or maybe you yourself have suffered. I had the chance to intervene on one of these this morning. Here's the scoop:

Public Speaking Tips - #2 Organize Your Speech

Delivering a quality speech starts with organization.  I find the best way to organize is to follow this statement "Tell them what you're going to tell them.  Tell them.  Tell them what you told them!".  Sound repetitive?  It is.  That's because we need to hear things multiple times, in different ways before it sinks in.

Public Speaking Tips - #1 Get Connected!

When I gave my first speech, I was terribly nervous.  I forgot a whole section.  I uh'd and ah'd more than I spoke real words.  And, I broke out in hives under my collar.  My audience gave me very warm applause though.  Another club member critiqued me, and made me feel great about what I said and how I said it.  Afterwards everyone congratulated me.

Education in America

Are We Failing Our Children?

and our children are failing because of it.   The American Education in Americaeducation system is broken.  For all of the talk and pride that we have as a Americans, somehow, we are not providing the structure and content required to educate our kids.

Before I jump into anything here, I want to point out that I believe our local schools, teachers, and administrators are doing the very best they can within the system they have.  This is NOT a problem with individuals.  Instead this is a systemic problem rooted in our laws and social values.

We have to start thinking about the end game for our children and our nation.  Raising highly educated, highly productive, and highly moral, children is the cornerstone of maintaining our great nations strength in the world.

Teleprompters for the Video Blog

TeleprompterAn effective video is very similar to an effective public speech.   You need to attract the audience's attention and be persuasive.   To do that, the speaker has to follow one basic principle of public speaking: make eye contact.

Introducing Public Speaking

I wanted to put together a video that I could put on the front page of publicly speaking that would share my motivations for why I built publicly speaking, and what I hope it will do.

I wanted something that would catch the interest of those who come to the site.  And, I really wanted to express that I am just like my audience.  I'm just an average guy.  I'm shy, and a little scared to put myself out there.

5 Steps to Funny Public Speaking

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."

The same applies to jokes.  Jokes can really accent your speech.  Not every joke belongs in your speech.

You will find that beginning a speech with a joke is a great way to make your audience more receptive to what you have to say.  Even better, getting a laugh from your listeners will help you loosen up as you begin speaking.
